RateClarity is designed to make contractor income clearer. This page explains how modelling, verification and forecasting tools work and how Pro features unlock additional capabilities.

Modelling your income

RateClarity calculates projected take-home pay based on the information you enter. This includes:

  • Day rate
  • Expected working days
  • Pension contributions
  • Tax assumptions
  • IR35 status

Calculations are only as accurate as the information provided. Always confirm final figures with a qualified accountant.

Inside and outside IR35 comparison

RateClarity allows you to compare structural differences between inside and outside IR35 scenarios. This helps you understand changes to:

  • Tax treatment
  • Employer costs
  • Net retained income

RateClarity does not determine IR35 status. It models outcomes based on your selection.

Dividend calculations

The dividend calculator estimates tax impact based on declared dividend amounts and current tax assumptions.

Dividend tax bands and allowances may change. Always verify with up-to-date guidance or your accountant.

Payslip verification and audit

RateClarity allows you to input payslip figures including:

  • Gross pay
  • Employer costs where shown
  • Employee deductions
  • Income tax
  • National Insurance
  • Pension deductions

The app compares expected values against standard UK assumptions and highlights discrepancies for review.

RateClarity flags inconsistencies based on modelling logic. It does not guarantee payroll correctness.

Forecasting allows you to project income and tax obligations forward based on your modelling assumptions.

Deadlines and reminders

RateClarity tracks key contractor dates such as tax deadlines and planning milestones.

If notifications are enabled, reminders can be triggered on your device.

Notifications must be enabled in device settings.

Understanding the waterfall view

The waterfall view shows how gross contract value flows through deductions, tax and contributions to reach net retained income.

This visual breakdown is designed to make structural costs easier to understand.

Exporting calculations

Certain modelling outputs can be exported as PDF documents for personal reference.

Exports are informational and should not be treated as formal financial statements.

App security and biometric lock

RateClarity can use Face ID or Touch ID where supported by your device to protect access to the app.

Biometric features are managed by your device’s secure hardware and operating system.

How to upgrade

You can upgrade to Pro within the app via the App Store. Subscriptions are managed by Apple.

Your data

RateClarity does not use advertising trackers.

Data is stored locally on your device where possible. If iCloud backup is enabled, storage follows Apple’s systems.
